Buchanan Family Series
Shadow Dance was the first of the Buchanan series I read (true to my nature I read the rest of series in disorder haha), and I fell totally in love with Garwood’s contemporaries (Noah, especially. He’s such a goofball *loves*). I later read a few of her historicals and didn’t quite enjoy them as much as her contemporaries *shrugs* But that’s personal preference. I know lots of people prefer her historicals over her contemps. But, I digress. So, here goes:
This book is a romance and thriller at once. Add in some contemporary shake, and you’ve got Shadow Dance. I rather liked that the title is a play on Jordan’s father’s situation (bodyguards shadowing his every step) inadvertently happening to her when she finds the dead body of a historian she’s met two days prior in the trunk of her car and her brother Nick and Noah Clayborne, two FBI agents, fly at her aid. Hence, being shadowed by bodyguards of sort. Then Nick has to leave, for matters unknown, and suddenly begins a dance of should-shouldn’ts with Noah even as they try to find the real murderer, who proves to be one heck of a surprise.
This is a great read, and I found it refreshing, witty and intelligent and less tedious than some of her previous works. The writing is fast-paced, which makes sense as this is a thriller as well, and Jordan and Noah’s relationship does not bloom quite as suddenly as has been said. Re-reading through it, you’ll find that Noah unknowingly had feelings WAY before they even began *cough* dancing. Anyway, hopefully we’ll get to read more about Jordan and Noah and their treasure hunt!

Her razor-sharp mind and ability to decipher evidence have made Avery Delaney an expert crime analyst for the FBI. Now she will have to use every one of her skills on a case that hits painfully close to home.
Hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison is flirting with danger. She agrees to help a journalist friend expose Dr. Lawrence Shields, a shady self-help guru who may have been responsible for the death of one of his vulnerable devotees. Hoping to find some damning evidence, Regan attends a Shields seminar, where the doctor has his guests make a list of the people who have hurt or angered them over the years and asks: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Treating the exercise as a game, Regan plays along.
Jordan has always led a cautious life and has used her intelligence and reason to become a successful businesswoman. So she is intrigued but skeptical of the professor’s claims that the feud has been kept alive by the grave injustices the Buchanans have perpetrated over the centuries. But when Noah Clayborne, a close family friend and a man who has never let a good time or a pretty girl pass him by, accuse Jordan of being trapped in her comfort zone, she determines to prove him wrong and sets out on a spontaneous adventure to the small, dusty town of Serenity, Texas, to judge the professor’s research for herself.
Maneuvering through a close-knit community in which everyone knows everyone else’s business, Jordan never anticipates the danger and intrigue that lie in her path, nor the threat that will shadow her back to Boston, where even in familiar surroundings, her life is at risk.
