I love the Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. Sookie Stackhouse is the main character of the series and she is one funny lady. Charlaine Harris is a very good author and I love her books but I only have her Sookie Stackhouser a.k.a. the Southern Vampire Series but she has other books and another series that she writes and which I’ve heard are really good. So far there are 8 published books in the series but the 9th book in the series called Dead and Gone is coming out on Tuesday, May 5. I’ve read the first 7 books before it became it hit HBO TV series called True Blood and though I don’t have HBO I’ve seen the first episode of the show at a friends house. I thought it was pretty good but you know how things are when they turn a book into a movie or TV show. It’s not the same but at least you have a visual of each character so when you read the books again or read future books in the series you have an idea of what each character looks like.
Dead to the World is one of my favorites of the series because things have really gotten interesting for Sookie Stackhouse and her new world of paranormal creatures. She has been betrayed by her first love Bill the vampire and she also has a friendship that is pretty complicated with the werewolf Alcide. Now all Sookie wants this new year is no more troubles from the vampires or werewolves in her life because she’s been hurt so much already and she wants a normal life again. But that kind of changes when she drives home from her cocktail waitress job and finds a naked man running on the road and she doesn’t just drive by and leave him alone. Turns out he hasn’t a clue as to who his is, but Sookie does because its Eric and without his memory he is sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie’s help. Because whoever took his memory now wants his life and that is when Sookie’s investigation into why leads straight into a dangerous battle among witches, vampires, and werewolves.
But there could be a greater danger to Sookie’s heart—because the kinder, gentler Eric is very difficult to resist. I love Eric very much even though sometimes he is such a Viking with no manners towards women but he’s such a fun vampire and I think a good match for Sookie. This was a very exciting novel to read because you have an epic battle between all these paranormal creatures and witches who want to take over. There is a lot of bloodshed in this novel but there is so much emotion between Sookie and Eric that I really want them to end up together someday. I was kind of sad and happy because Sookie and Eric don’t end up together but I know that Charlaine Harris has something special planned for Sookie in the future novels of this series that I really hope have Eric in it also. Here is the description of the books from the back covers and pictures:
DEAD TO THE WORLD $ 19.95 (Book 4)(291 Pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99)
Sookie Stackhouse is a small-town cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She’s pretty. She does her job well. She keeps to herself and has only a few close friends because no everyone appreciates Sookie’s gift. She can read minds. Not exactly every man’s idea of date bait. Unless they’re undead. Vampires and the like can be tough to read—just the kind of guy Sookie’s been looking for. Maybe that’s why, when she comes across a naked vampire on the road home form work, she doesn’t just drive on by. Turns out he hasn’t a clue as to who his is, but Sookie does. Its Eric is sweet, vulnerable, and in need of Sookie’s help—because whoever took his memory now wants his life. Sookie’s investigation into why leads straight into a dangerous battle among witches, vampires, and werewolves. But there could be a greater danger to Sookie’s heart—because the kinder, gentler Eric is very difficult to resist…
