Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Poster

Fifty Shades of Grey Movie Poster

It was more than year ago that we had heard rumors that there would be a Fifty Shades of Grey movie coming out in August of 2014 but the movie was pushed back until Valentine’s Day 2015 while they got all the actors together with a script that would make it the movie all of its fans are expecting. Well that day has finally come and it was time to finally see how the actors ended up portraying our beloved Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. I went to the 8:55PM show at College Point Multiplex Cinemas on Tuesday, February 17th (this theater has movie tickets at $7.50 for all ages on Tuesdays only) with my aunt, her husband, my other aunt, my cousin and her husband and three other family members. Since it was a workday after a 3 day weekend I was all excited and working was a distraction that I wanted done with fast.

When we finally got to the movie theater about an hour early we were starving for dinner so we left my two aunts to make the line for us before the movie started. When we came back to the movie theater there was a long line but luckily my two aunts where right in the front so when we were finally let into the movie theater we were able to get almost a complete row towards the middle of the theater. So we all got settled in our seats with everyone who wanted popcorn and snakes leaving their coats to protect their seats and anyone who needed to use the restroom before the 2 hours and 5 minute movie started went about their business. When everyone in my group finally got themselves situated in their seats with the popcorn and snakes the movie previews started playing and still more people were walking in trying to find seats before the movie started in a few minutes until the movie theater was full with only one or two sole seats in-between big groups.

When Anastasia Steele, a literature student, goes to interview the wealthy Christian Grey as a favor to her roommate Kate Kavanagh, she encounters a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating man. The innocent and naive Ana starts to realize she wants him. Despite his enigmatic reserve and advice, she finds herself desperate to get close to him. Not able to resist Ana’s beauty and independent spirit, Christian Grey admits he wants her too, but on his own terms. Ana hesitates as she discovers the singular tastes of Christian Grey – despite the embellishments of success, his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, and his loving family, Grey is consumed by the need to control everything.

After the movie previews of a few movies that were coming to the theaters the movie started with one of the songs from the official movie soundtrack. I won’t go into details of the movie for those who have not seen it but I can tell you that I will give you my honest opinion of what I thought of it now that I’ve seen it. I will say that after waiting almost more than a year for this movie to finally be released it was almost everything that I wanted it to be. I enjoyed watching this movie because even though reading the books I had my own image of the characters and the settings but having it put into the movie was a joy because I now had a solid picture of what the characters and settings look like so when I re-read the books again I will now have Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson in my mind as Ana and Christian. As I was watching the movie I felt that certain parts of the film were rushed when in the book it was fleshed out more to give the readers a better understanding of how Ana and Christian got to a certain part of the lives together.

I think that when you adapt a book into a movie you have to make it into a movie script that has the best quotes from the book as well as scenes that give the characters depths and also make it all make sense within a certain time frame so it wouldn’t bore the audience. Well as a fan of the books I can speak for myself and say that I wouldn’t have minded watching an almost 3 hour Fifty Shades of Grey movie if I got to see some of my favorite moments between Ana and Christian like those special emails that they share with each other throughout the first book. I felt it was a bit rushed in certain parts but the sex scenes were tastefully done especially for a movie that is based on a BDSM themed book. I also felt that the Red Room of Pain scenes between Ana and Christian were also something that was tastefully done because even though there are a lot of people around the world who find these scenes abusive but what they don’t understand it some people have their fetishes and it’s not our place to understand them but to accept that each person enjoys different things we might not consider normal.

So in the end I am counting the days for the Blu-ray to come out so that I can enjoy the movie over and over again until we finally get the second book in the theaters. Also it might be a long wait since I’ve been reading on through some Facebook posts from MTV and Variety that there may be delays on books two and three being made into movies since the author E. L. James wants to take over writing the script which she has no experience writing a movie script before and the movie studio doesn’t agree with that. Well like everyone else who loved the books we can only pray that the studio and James can figure out a compromise that would benefit all especially us the audience who wants to get to see Jamie and Dakota reprise their roles as Ana and Christian. Now enjoy the official theatrical trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey below.

I'm a part-time aspiring romance novelist, book reviewer and blogger. I've always wanted to travel the world and learn everything I can about other countries. Learning the Italian language is one way of trying to make that dream come true. Traveling will help me with my writing because I'll be learning about the history of the U.S., Latin America, England, Italy, and Ireland, the countries I find so fascinating while reading the romance genre. I read and review romance novels of almost every subgenre along with erotic romance, mystery, sci-fi/fantasy and young adult novels. You can find the reviews at my blogs, Talk About My Favorite Authors and Phoebe Jordan's Reviews. I’ve also started a live podcast show called TAMFA | Phoebe Jordan hosted on Blog Talk Radio. This show is dedicated to everything I love about romance and young adult novels. I love having romance and young adult authors live on my show to be interviewed and showcase their books. I plan to write contemporary romance, romantic suspense, erotic romance, paranormal romance and young adult when I get my writing career started with help from Keta. I'm not sure what genre I'll write to begin with since I love to read so many different romance genres.
