I love Brenda Joyce’s books and this is one of her series that I stumbled upon when I was at Barnes & Nobles looking for new books to buy. The first book that I ever bought of Brenda Joyce was The Conqueror the first book in the de Warenne Dynasty series. I loved it so much that when I found out that there were more books of the delightful de Warenne family I just had to buy them. I loved reading all about the books of the beginning of the de Warenne family that started in 1069 and continued on to the present year in the series of the mid 1800. I have to say that I was very intrigued with this novel when I read it because it had some very intriguing characters that contect with the current de Warenne and O’Neil family. Brenda Joyce is such a talented writer and I have been a loyal fan since I found this novel at the bookstore and I’ve bought as many of her books as possible.

I love historical romances and I’ve read all types of them so it was a joy to read this novel for the first time. An infamous sea captain of the British Royal Navy, Devlin O’Neill is consumed with the need to destroy the man who brutally murdered his father. Having nearly ruined the Earl of Eastleigh financially, he is waiting to strike the final blow. And his opportunity comes in the form of a spirited young American woman, the earl’s niece, who is about to set his cold calculating world on fire. Born and raised on a tobacco plantation, orphan Virginia Hughes is determined to rebuild her beloved Sweet Briar. Daringly, she sails to England alone, hoping to convince her uncle to lend her the funds. Instead, she finds herself ruthlessly kidnapped by the notorious Devlin O’Neill. As his hostage, she will soon find her best-laid plans thwarted by a passion that could seal their fates forever.

I loved reading this novel because it is about the descendents of Liam and Katherine O’Neil from the book The Game. It was also enjoyable because we read about the descendents of the de Warenne family again. Devlin and Virginia have many issues in this novel that they have to get through in order to finally get together which is wonderful to read because Devlin and Virginia are such passionate characters. They have a very complicated hatred between them that could make or break their relationship with one another that made the novel such a great read. Throughout the entire novel I was rooting for Virginia and Devlin to end happily with one another because they had to struggle through many heartaches to be with one another. I haven’t been disappointed by any of her novels in this series or any of her other works and I don’t think I ever will because they only get better with each book that comes out. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:

I'm a part-time aspiring romance novelist, book reviewer and blogger. I've always wanted to travel the world and learn everything I can about other countries. Learning the Italian language is one way of trying to make that dream come true. Traveling will help me with my writing because I'll be learning about the history of the U.S., Latin America, England, Italy, and Ireland, the countries I find so fascinating while reading the romance genre. I read and review romance novels of almost every subgenre along with erotic romance, mystery, sci-fi/fantasy and young adult novels. You can find the reviews at my blogs, Talk About My Favorite Authors and Phoebe Jordan's Reviews. I’ve also started a live podcast show called TAMFA | Phoebe Jordan hosted on Blog Talk Radio. This show is dedicated to everything I love about romance and young adult novels. I love having romance and young adult authors live on my show to be interviewed and showcase their books. I plan to write contemporary romance, romantic suspense, erotic romance, paranormal romance and young adult when I get my writing career started with help from Keta. I'm not sure what genre I'll write to begin with since I love to read so many different romance genres.
